Sick bay: Packers’ Woodson 'out' for Sunday

Why did coach Lovie Smith give the Bears a day off from a normal practice? Could be that his team would’ve had to play eight-man football for the day.
Not practicing on Wednesday were receiver Earl Bennett (concussion), linebackers Lance Briggs (knee/hip), Geno Hayes (knee) and Brian Urlacher (hamstring), running back Michael Bush (ribs), quarterback Jay Cutler (neck), tight end Kellen Davis (knee), cornerback Tim Jennings (shoulder), defensive linemen Shea McClellin (knee) and Henry Melton (chest), and tackle Jonathan Scott (shoulder).

Briggs was on the injury report pre-Seattle, missing practice with an ankle injury in the first Minnesota game.
The Green Bay Packers, wracked by injuries this season, were without safety Charles Woodson (collarbone) and cornerback Davon House (ill); wide receiver Jordy Nelson (hamstring), running back James Starks (knee) and defensive end C.J. Wilson (knee).
Ironically, the injury problems in Green Bay have given the Packers a booster shot in their player-development plan.

“We wanted to play more players earlier than we have in the past and that was a focus coming into the season,” said Green Bay coach Mike McCarthy. “But with the injuries it obviously happened earlier than we may have liked but it’s been good for our guys because I feel we’re a more well rounded football team because of it.”
