No. 20 Notre Dame 78, BYU 68NEW YORK (AP) Jack Cooley had 19
points and 13 rebounds to lead No. 20 Notre Dame to a 78-68 victory over
BYU in the third-place game of the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic on
Saturday night.
Jerian Grant had 19 points - 17 in the
second half - and Eric Atkins added 16, including the 3-pointer that
gave the Fighting Irish a cushion after the Cougars had pulled within
63-61 with 4:28 to play.
Atkins hit the 3 28 seconds later and
that was the fifth of six attempts from beyond the arc in the second
half after the Irish had gone 1 of 7 from there in the first half.

DePaul 98, Austin Peay 67
ROSEMONT, Ill. — Cleveland Melvin scored 26 points and Brandon Young added 17 as DePaul routed Austin Peay 98-67 on Saturday.
The Blue Demons’ press forced 27 turnovers in their second game in the Cancun Challenge.
Melvin, the 2010-11 Big East rookie of the year, was 11 of 18 from the field and grabbed eight rebounds. Moses Morgan added 15 points for DePaul (2-1).
Anthony Campbell led Austin Peay (1-2) with 17 points.
UIC 62, Mercer 36
ST. THOMAS, U.S. Virgin Islands (AP) Gary Talton and Hayden Humes each scored 14 points, and the University of Illinois-Chicago used a 15-0 run early in the second half to pull away in a 62-36 victory over Mercer in the Paradise Jam on Saturday.
Illinois-Chicago (2-1) took a 30-19 lead into halftime and started its 15-0 run with a Marc Brown tip-in with 16:26 left to play. Daniel Barnes scored seven of his nine points during that run. Barnes finished with a game-high seven rebounds for the Flames.

South Florida 68, Loyola 50TAMPA, Fla. (AP) Kore White scored 15 points, Anthony Collins added 11, and South Florida beat Loyola of Chicago 68-50 Saturday night.
Victor Rudd had 10 points for the Bulls (2-1), who beat Maryland-Eastern Shore 78-59 on Friday night.
Loyola (2-2) got nine points each from Devon Turk and Ben Averkamp.

Piper shot 10 of 16 from the floor, 2 of 4 from 3-point range and 6 of 6 from the free-throw line for the Panthers (1-3).
Brandon Provost scored 12 points for the Broncs (1-4).

Complete recapEvansville 49, Western Illinois 44EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) Jordan Jahr had 13 points and eight rebounds and Evansville closed the game on a 15-2 run to defeat Western Illinois 49-44 Saturday night in the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic.
The Purple Aces (2-2) trailed 42-34 with 8:45 remaining when Jaylon Moore started the run with a three-point play and Jahr followed with two 3-pointers. Western Illinois (2-2) got its only points during that long stretch when Jack Houpt scored on a layup. But by then, there were only 17 seconds remaining and the Fighting Leathernecks trailed 47-44.
Ned Cox added 11 points for Evansville.
