To no one’s surprise, Jay Cutler already is declared “out” of next Monday’s Bears-San Francisco game, as is rookie defensive end Shea McClellin, both the results of concussions suffered in last Sunday’s Houston Texans game.
The 49ers will be Campbell’s 71st NFL start. He has faced San Francisco twice previously in his career, losing to them as a Washington Redskin in the final game of the 2008 season and as an Oakland Raider in October 2010. Both games were at Candlestick Park.
Cutler was not at practice on Thursday and all signs pointed to his being inactive for the 49ers, beginning with the near-immediate signing of Josh McCown as a No. 3 quarterback.
Campbell’s 2010 game vs. San Francisco was his worst as a pro. He completed just eight of 21 passes for 83 yards, zero touchdowns and two interceptions, with a passer rating of 10.7.
