Sick bay: Texans NT Cody, TE Daniels out

The middle of the Houston Texans defense took a hit Friday when nose tackle Shaun Cody, the inside anchor of the 3-4 front, was declared out with a rib injury believed to involve a punctured lung.
On offense, starting tight end Owen Daniels, a 2009 Pro Bowl selection and with a team-high five touchdown catches and 37 total, is a game-time decision with a back injury that had him “very limited” in practice Friday, Houston coach Gary Kubiak said.
“It affects us a great deal because we’re very oriented with the versatility of those players,” Kubiak said. “Can we still go do everything we do? Yeah, we can. You get limited as far as freshness of guys or a nick and the game can throw you out of a lot of different things…. But we’ve got to work through it.”
Bears rookie wide receiver Alshon Jeffery practiced on a limited basis and is listed as doubtful (hand) but no one expects him or nose tackle Matt Toeaina (calf) to play against Houston. Maybe San Francisco for Jeffery.
“We’re excited about the progress he’s made, and he’s ‘doubtful,’” coach Lovie Smith said. “I can’t really say much more than that. But we put him as doubtful instead of out.”
