It's award season in the MLB and a new ceremony has joined in on the fun.
Sunday night, the inaugural Wilson Defensive Awards were announced on MLB Network, including awards for the best overall defensive team, the best defender in each league and the best defender on each individual team.
In a surprise to nobody, Darwin Barney was named the Cubs' best defensive player. Brandon Phillips may not have won the NL Gold Glove, but he was deemed the Reds' best defender. That's gotta count for something, right?
Four other second basemen joined Barney and Phillips on the list, including New York's Robinson Cano, Boston's Dustin Pedroia, Cleveland's Jason Kipnis and Arizona's Aaron Hill.
The Braves were voted the best defensive team, with centerfielder Michael Bourn coming in as the best overall player in the NL. Mike Trout won the same award for the NL.
