Cubs acquire Carreno from Tigers to complete Baker trade

More than two months later, the Cubs acquired right-hander Marcelo Carreno from the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday to complete the Jeff Baker trade.
Carreno, 21, is another arm to add to an organization that desperately needs pitching depth. MLB.com had recently ranked Carreno as the No. 11 prospect in Detroit’s system.
Carreno went 9-8 with a 3.23 ERA in 27 starts for Single-A West Michigan last season. He finished with 119 strikeouts against 28 walks in 139.1 innings.
The Cubs shipped Baker – a utility guy who considered himself a better fit for the National League – to Detroit on Aug. 5. The Tigers designated Baker for assignment and traded him to the Atlanta Braves on Aug. 31.
The Cubs will also receive a cash consideration – not another player to be named later – to finish the deal.
